Edit AY! Newbie | Microsoft ain’t abandoning XP yet; Windows XP SP3 leaked
When Microsoft earlier announced it will be phasing out Windows XP by 2008, everyone thought we’re doomed with Vista. What will all that bugs and incompatibilities, it sure does make corporate system administrators crack their heads in frustration. Even PC manufacturers like Acer are disappointed with Windows Vista. Windows XP is still the best option since its release in 2001. Recent reports revealed a leaked Service Pack 3 for Windows XP. Now there’s still hope. More on that story. |

I wouldn't go with this until I see it on Register or the BBC Feed. Also, Linux has been the best option since it's release over ten years ago. :P

Why not just buy a Mac? I have a Macbook Pro. I will never ever go back to Windows, seriously. I may end up putting Boot Camp on my Macbook Pro and run Windows when have to, just because it runs better on the Mac then a PC, I ran it once.

There are some people that don't want to spend $3000 on something that will become a paperweight with in two years. There's other questions you could ask too? Why not run Linux? Why not run DOS?

Because those who have no clue what they're doing want something familiar? (Like me?) My brother just bought a 13 inch Macbook for around $1,300. I got my computer for a little over $1,000, with everything I wanted (RAM, Hard drive space, etc...) Microsoft Office 07, (Student Edition) and my screen is like 17 inches with a high-def. (And it's pink!) Now tell me, what seems like the better deal to you or any other non-computer geek out there? Everyone keeps screaming "MAC OH MAC!" But I don't see what the big deal is...*woowhoo* (Of course I am not a big "apple geek" so I won't sing it's praises until it impresses me...)

I spent £950 on a black (very sleek looking) macbook, it's faster than any other PC of the same price that I looked at, it comes installed with everything ready to use, I still haven't managed to find the limit to how many applications I can have open (got to about 20 I think and it still ran fine) and I can upgrade memory and space at any point and I can put windows on it. I'm not an apple freak, windows over apple anyday but it really is a decent computer and far more reliable than anything else in the price range that was available to me. For those who see macs as a paperweight it's still better than any PC i've had and I've had a few good ones, for the mac fanboy for their price they're good but there's still some PCs that are way better. So they're continuing XP then?

Price will keep coming down. It came down considerably a lot since they switched to Intel processors. It will keep coming down, mark my words. Like sweetoffee14 said, everything is runable right out of the box. It has a lot more applications installed then Windows, and ones that you actually can use. Plus, I don't have to restart it every day like I did with Windows/PC.

I haven't had to restart it.... Since my bro has a Mac, we shall see whose lasts longer and is better in the long run...(We got ours like 2 weeks apart...)

I thought that this would be good to note: Windows XP is currently more widely used than any other operating system, it would make absolutely no sense for microsoft to discontinue support or updates at this point. Look at Windows 2000 which is on like service pack #4 Microsoft only recently discontinued support for Windows 98 which was getting hard to find anyways. Service pack three is due for Windows XP, but I understand that Microsoft will likely delay it's release to prolong the 'hype' for Windows Vista. I'm also anticipating a service pack for Vista here in the near future. Many large companies will not switch to vista untill service pack 1 arrives. |
