I know for me personally to get rid of my bad habits when I began to cuss and use foul language it was all because of what I exposed myself to. But as soon as I got rid of the bad influences in my life I was able to have the strength to overcome the urge to cuss. The people, things we watch, play and do all influence us so to get rid of bad habits is to get rid of those things that influence us. Sometimes it is not always easy to realize what it is that brings these influences on you but with prayer, and reading the word you will be able to eventually discern what is in fact being a bad influence to you. So if you have a problem with cussing, then get rid of movies that use foul language. Stop hanging around friends that use it and you will find that you will be able to control your urges to go back to your old habits decreasing. I hope this advice helps. |

I have the problem of swearing in my head. I do not curse aloud but I think curse words, sometimes when I am mad..and sometimes when I am thinking. I have been trying to get rid of this habit for a very long time--years-- but it seems to linger. Could it have something to do with the fact that I hear curse words all the time from my family and friends?

I used to use swear words way too often. But what ive started doing is replaycing the word with something else. For example, i'll say words like suger plums, or sheesh kebab or my favourite being sugar butties(this is a north west england saying lol). You dont have to use those words exactly but you'll find that soon you'll be swearing less allowed and in your head |

Well I would also think about if perhaps the people around you curse a lot. If so it may be difficult since they may not be trying to quit. Not spending too much time around them till you are cured/achieved your goal will definitely help you. hehe Well what I always did for anything I should not have been doing or saying in mind or out loud is "SIN = DEATH" over and over and over and over...and you get the picture. lol Like you said, I prayed about it as well as help to stop. Since I was giving effort I asked if He could assist. When I'd be tempted I asked Him to give me the knowledge to realize I was about to sin and to give me three chances to stop, think, and fight my flesh by saying "SIN = DEATH". I asked for a fear as in to revere God, but I also tried to instill in myself that God could take my life away for this and even at that moment (I reminded myself the story of what happened to the couple in the bible who kept money from selling their property and lied about it.). Though we do have Jesus, think of it as a Christian Boot Camp or Get-the-Boot camp.lol. Hope it helps. |

I don't believe swearing is of a sinful nature in any way. However, the way you use it can be considered such. Then again, any word can be, so it's not the swearing itself, as it is the message you're trying to convey. For example, dropping an F-bomb in a situation where you're glorifying the Lord and are using it to emphasize how great he truly is -- "The Lord is ~bloody~ great!" -- isn't sinful by any Biblical standard. I believe swear words are more societal than theological. However, swear words are rather rudimentary and limit one's diction, much like "thing" and "stuff" do. It's far more desirable to be able to replace the word with something more eloquent, in my view. I wouldn't try to avoid swearing as much as I would study vocabulary to the point where you will use words that will completely and utterly replace them. When you know words of a higher caliber to the point where you drop them in casual conversation, you will find that you swear much less. |

We have a lot of problems in our lives, don't we? Swearing, porn, lying, etc etc. But there is hope. Jesus can come into our lives and make us a NEW creation, He can get rid of all those things that are in our lives. Don't let others OR Satan tell you, "You can't get rid of this. It's human nature. As hard as you try to change, you can't. It's impossible." With Christ, we can do ANYTHING. Get into the Word. Dig into prayer. God will get rid of this swearing soon! Hold strong<3 |

You can't and you will not change your self if you even tried your best. The only way true change comes within you is if you let Christ live your life for you. Dont think its an instant change overnight, but the first step is to stop living your life and let God control you and Christ be the light that shines within you.
