Smile Hi!

At my church I am in a youth choir and when we sing the audience isnt always super excited to hear us. But my choir director reminded us that we are singing for and audience of one. And the one is God. So just remember God loves everything you sing.

P.S Before you sing dont eat choclate or drink milk.

Post My advice!!!

My advice is don't eat anything with lactose in it before you sing!! Drink warm water (you can even put lemon in it to put some flavor in it if you want, that will help your skin also) and have fun!! My group always prays before we go on but that is kinda a given!!!

Good Luck everybody!!!

well now i've been doing it for 5 months i have discovered i always get a cold the week i'm on, a little bit of chocolate does help, vocal warm ups are amazing, if there's more than one singer follow the keyboard not them as keyboards are more likely to be in tune....prayer also does wonders, and don't look at your friends

Since i started another two have joined me so i'm not on every week anymore, i'm on the next 4 weeks in a row in one form or another (choir morning, singing evening, singing, singing, choir) though which i'm so pleased about i love being up there, i just love being surrounded by musicians, though i wish the stage wasn't so high up, you do feel like the focus of everyone's attention (even if they're only looking above you for the words).

ALWAYS warm up! Dont drink or eat any milky stuff - chocolate - or fizzy drinks - it can make you feel bloated... i find it easier to sing when i havent eaten a HUGE meal before the time...eat a snack about 45mins before singing. If it is not possible for you to sing out loud when trying to keep your voice warm, try humming - it does work.

i've found that when you are a leader of worship, you need to engage with people and REMEMBER that at the end of the day you are singing to an audience of One - this usually helps me calm the nerves if you find it intimidating or scary to engage with the congregation, close your eyes and WORSHIP girl! promise you'll get used to it...

A funny story to encourage you:: my first time on frontline vocals i was REALLY nervous and when i get nervous i bob my knee (weird, i know) afterwards i went to my friends and told them how nervous i was and they started laughing, saying they thought the knee bobbing thingy was a new dance move!!!hehehe!anyways, good luck and God bless!!

Yeah I lead worship for my high school group and at first it was super hard to get my voice warmed up on Sunday mornings, but tea with honey REALLY helps me and there's this stuff a friend told me about called
Vocal-ese and I guess it's really good, but tastes bad. But yeah, how you sound is really not the most important thing, as long as you are praising God, he doesn't really care how you sound...as long as you're worshipping Him. My youth group is having a little trouble with this now. No one really cares about worshipping God, they just want someone with a good voice and cool guitar riffs for entertainment. I know I'm not speaking for everyone, but our youth group just needs prayer. Wow...I'm kinda negative sometimes....well our group is better than it was a couple of months ago...there I said something somewhat positive! lol!

I'm a member of a VERY small church (small but mighty!) so when I joined earlier this year, I got snapped up straight away, hahah. But I don't get any weeks off so I never get to just enjoy the worship time (sometimes I want to sit down and just pray but I can't which is slightly off-putting). I also very often don't know the songs I'm singing - occasionally they add in extra songs on the day so I've never heard them before - and that is REALLY not fun. It's particularly bad during the summer when people are constantly going on holiday and there ends up being about three of us in the worship team. That said, there's only four on a permanent basis

I do need to have more singing lessons. But my last singing teacher moved away and I want lessons with a Christian teacher who will understand where I'm coming from.

Does anyone have any experience of singing through a cold/throat infection? I seem to always have some sort of cold but this past week my voice just disappeared, today is the first day where I can talk and sound somewhat normal, I have 3 days before practise for Sunday and I just hope that with warmups and rest that I'll be able to sing without wrecking my voice :S

Just remeber that God thinks your voice is beautiful no matter what happens. Afterall, he made it! It's not about how good you sound, though you are obviously very good if you are on the worship team, but it's still about how you are praising God. Even the most tone-deaf person in the world still has a beautiful voice. So no pressure, no worries. You'll be great!

I'm a voice teacher, so I always get excited when people want to sing.

I also have chronic allergies, so I'm used to singing through congestion or throat problems, Sweetoffee. It actually shouldn't affect you that much, because you should be singing past your throat and your nose. Concentrate on getting your oomph from your stomach and lungs and past your throat and nose. You want to experience a buzzing in your head (humming as a warmup will put you in the right mindset) and you want to sing with your vocal chords wide open as if you're about to yawn or sneeze. You should almost feel light-headed in the beginning, because you are getting good aerobic exercise! You can always PM me for any other questions. I have six voice students.
