Edit Disciple ![]() | Christmas in the Modern Times Sometimes, the best way to celebrate Christmas is not to be overly "merry". It's been said over and over that today's Christmas is now commercialized. There is a truth to that, and no matter where you look, there would always be stores and advertisements urging you to buy the "best" presents at their stores, supposedly to feel the real meaning of Christmas. Children see it now as a season to receive gifts, to eat to their hearts' content, and to delight in the figure of the present epitome of the season, Santa Claus. Many know that Christmas really is a celebration of the Savior's birth, but few take that meaning to heart. There's a quiet joy to Christmas. Perhaps it's not the merry, jumping-up-and-down type of giddyness that we feel, but a quiet, almost melancholy approach, the sort where some silent whisper fills you with the real spirit and essence of the season. You don't sing Christmas carols at the top of your voice; rather, you stay quiet and still, and you could almost feel the true excitement and energy beating inside you, a joy like no other. Nothing, even if you were showered with the costliest presents and the finest material offerings of love, could compare to that feeling of finally finding the real meaning of Christmas in our hearts. Instead of receiving, why not give? Kindness cannot really be given away, as it keeps coming back to you, until the cycle repeats over and over again. Not everyone is comfortable and happy at this time of the year. Take the time to shower a little love, a bit of warmth, to those who need it most. Give to those who could not repay you in return; the satisfaction is much better, since you won't feel like you were repaid for an act of kindness that should be with no strings attached. Christmas has been dubbed a loud, commercialized affair. Step off the bandwagon. Christmas is a time for quiet reflection, for pondering the beauty of Christ's coming into the world, and for appreciating His coming into our lives. ------------------------------------------ In Nomine Domini Nostri Jesu Christi In the Name of Our Lord Jesus Christ |
