Edit Disciple ![]() | Windows vs. Linux Which software would you prefere. Windows XP or Linux. Many people use Windows software. But do you know that linux is supiorer to Windows software. Its more stable and would less likely crash compared to windows which has that possibility. Its great software. The only thing is its hard to operate. Its alittle complicated software to run and understand. What do you think. -Josh (keyboardmaster). |

Edit Apostle ![]() | Linux is hands-down, a much more stable platform than Windows and is why I use it on most of my quiet servers (email, dns, backup). With that said, Linux falls flat when it comes to an end user desktop OS in the real world. Unreliable support and the lack of end-user familiarity keeps Linux from ever gaining a decent place in the market. As a software developer, I go where the money goes - and with over 80% of the market, I'm going with Windows when developing software for clients (regardless of it's instability). Macs are great for design and *nix are great for stability, but Windows puts food on my table. All hail King Gates! |

Edit Prophet/Prophetess ![]() | Bee7le is right about the money being in windows environments. but when it comes to developing the software i would use a unix machine to do that development work for the windows environment, or somethign like cygwin which is a command shell for windows. there is however a lot of support for linux machines, but its unconventional, mostly through other users. and there is a huge problem with linux being different in almost every distrib. Linux will never take over the microsoft market share, but it will keep going strong and stay put in its niche

Edit Evangelist/Missionary ![]() | No doubt about it, Linux is obviously more stable, has better software, etc. But, I think that since Linux is a more "newer" software, I'm going to wait a while, and gradually let it improve, before I download it again. I got it once, and made the mistake of clearing ALL the partitions while installing it, getting rid of Windows. So, I'm going to wait a few more months before I get it. |

Edit Disciple ![]() | Bee7le knows what he's talking about. All my CS projects are *nix based, although I often am writing from Windows using SSH and such. I dual boot my system, but what I wanna do is get a slightly less capable box, and get a monitor/input chooser so I can run both in parallel while developing. |

Edit Prophet/Prophetess ![]() | HUZZAH! My kinda discussion! I prefer Linux Debian although I can't do all the things on it that I'd like to (Play games on it for one). But if Debian could do almost everything Windows could (Like play games) I'd boot into it more often.
