Anyone know of a good web host?

Hi everyone,

I have found myself in an interesting situation.
My youth group site http://www.hcfyouth.com got 'suspended' by my host this morning.

I have been with this host for exactly a year.

I'm really kindof 'suspicious' of this and think that there is some other motive behind it. They say the site overloaded the server - my site does not get even 100 visitors a day!!!

So if any of you guys know of a good host (maybe a christian host) I would be glad to hear from you!

I know of a lot of hosts... good and bad, but it will really depend on what you are looking for and your budget.

If you don't need to much, and you want really good support, I would try: http://www.christianwebhost.com/ . They were our first host, and I just outgrew the package so I moved on. But they are really supportive.

Anointed Youth uses http://christiandesigns.org . Same as above as far as support, but with more added in the packages.

Right now, I'm leaning toward lunarpages.

If anyone has any input please press the reply button.

Christianwebhost.com did look good, they do not have some the features that I need though...

I believe that lunarpages is pretty good too

. So that is a good choice if you decide to go with them.

Godaddy.com isn't bad either, I have one domain with them...might be getting another (personal site)

Godaddy is good for domain names, but I haven't heard to many good things about them as a host. Be sure to do some searching for reviews before picking out a host. Some of the time though you'll find equal negative and positive, and you'll have to pick your choice of the lesser evils. A good site to visit is http://www.webhostingtalk.com/ .

Well, I'm not sure about Godaddy, I have some friends that host a site there. They say that the server goes out often, and for hours at a time.

Also, Godaddy controls their domain. Basically if they wanted to move to another host Godaddy would keep the domain.

I stand behind www.vizaweb.com. They have been my host for more than 3 years now. I have 5 sites hosted with them and have never had a problem. And their prices are still the best I've found.

But about your overloading. Do you have an email form on your site (where visitors can send email via a form on your site)? This is probably the #1 PHP vulnerability hackers exploit on small sites. If this is the case, your email form could probably be used to spam thousands of recipients, therefore overloading the server - this is pretty common. So before you move to another server, make sure you secure or validate any open doors like email forms.

That could be it! I do have a small 'contact form' on the 'contact us' page.

The site was powered by Joomla, and I've heard some stories about that.

I think that the overload may have been helped by a few poorly written mods too.

My last host www.siteground.com was good though. I'm almost tempted to open another account with them. I've never seen a deal quite like theirs.

Right now, Lunarpages is on top of the list, with Christianwebhost not far behind, then a few other not so well known companies.
