Why are there denomonations?

Aren't denomonations bad in a way? I mean, we're all following the word of God, why do we have to segregate ourselves?

also, what's the "universal religion"?

Thanks!

Lol, I had someone on my website that believed in the universal religion...strange fellow.

It is where they believe Allah, Jesus, Krishna and others were forms of God who came to earth and helped those certain people for that certain era. This is false because Mohammed never claimed he was "God". His posts, no one could read because they were confusing, and you couldn't follow them.

The reason why there are different denominations is
1) There are different doctrines that people believe in
2) We May choose to worship differently than others
3) Some are just too selfish to admit that they're wrong and get over their differences.

That's the reason why to my knowledge.

No definately not. I call myself a Christian, a follower of Christ. Although the name has been watered down to anyone who calls themselves a good person. There is no problem with denominations whatsoever. God calls for the church to have unity.

I'm actually reading a book about denominations. I moved to a new town, and they don't have a church of the denomination i used to go to. The book is called Same God, Different Churches, and it is by Katie Meier. It explains the differences between most denominations, and why it happened. It would probably be a good read for you.

i think the reason why we have diffrent dominations is because when the people in the bible built the big tower because they wanted to reach heaven and God made everysingle one of them speak a diffrent language i think each and everyone of them had there own beliefs i think thats why we have dominations .

I know (Well have heard before) that there were some who followed the teaching of certain disciples/apostles. Perhaps that's the start of denominations?

I believe Joy's right. We don't hear anything about denominations in the Bible, one is either a child of God or not. Denominations are just a way of segregating beliefs into groups of those who agree with them. I don't think there's anything wrong with denominations as long as we realize that all Christians are part of the body of Christ no matter what denomination. I think it's very important to maintain complete unity among ourselves as believers and remember that ultimately, there will be no division and we will all stand before our Lord in unity and worship him when he returns.
