Edit AY! Newbie | This is my first post, so hello everyone! My name is Kiki, and I'm 20 years old. I live in Texas for the time being... I am interested in being saved, but first I really want to learn about Christ and would like to start reading the Bible. I am at a complete loss as how to go about doing this. I have tried repeatedly to just start reading, but get so lost. My mom told me to start with John, but this didn't work for me. Can anyone tell me what books would be helpful for someone who really doesn't know much about living a Christian life? I need something that will give me a good and thorough introduction to Christianity. I also would like to find a good work book with lots of questions that would make me think! Please Help! Thank you! |

Edit Super Moderator ![]() | Hi Kiki That's cool that you're interested in following Christ, way to go Well, the Bible is the ultimate guide to Christian life. Try starting in John chapter 2. The first chapter can be a bit confusing. Or try Mark, it is shorter If you're looking for Christian apologetics, read C.S. Lewis' "Mere Christianity". I'm in the process of reading "Spirit of the Disciplines", which is more lofty/heady but right on with the practices that our lives should involve and why they're important. Those are what I can think of off the top of my head, but I'll be happy to give ya more if you like! I'd love to talk to you, please PM me whenever you like... do you use AIM? I'll be praying for you ![]() Oh, as for good workbooks... I've got a new one about developing your biblical philosophy of evangelism, which I'm really excited to start chewing on ![]() Can't wait to get to know you better!

Edit Administrator ![]() | Anything by Max Lucado is good. I'm reading the Grip of Grace, it's wonderful! I also liked When God Whispers your Name. Also Case for Christ and the other ones in the city are great too.

Edit AY! Newbie ![]() | Spirit-filled Life Student bible Growing in the Power of the Word (Thats the whole title of my bible, it's really good trust me!) If you can't find it in any of the Christian Book stores, I suggest you keep reading the bible. It's very powerful! Even though sometimes you might not understand it. Also pray to the heavenly father. Theres something about the audible word. Even if you dont know how to pray just speak whats on your mind, He hears you I can assure you of that. He Will give you the understanding in time. |

Edit servant ![]() | "More than a carpender" (I spelled that wrong, didn't I? =P) And I'd liek to third "Mere Christianity." The following is my favorite quote of all times from it.... "I am trying here to prevent anyone saying the really foolish thing that people often say about Him: 'I'm ready to accept Jesus as a great moral teacher, but I don't accept His claim to be God.' That is the one thing we must not say. A man who was merely a man and said the sort of things Jesus said would not be a great moral teacher. He would either be a lunatic - on the level with the man who says he is a poached egg - or else he would be the Devil of Hell. You must make your choice. Either this man was, and is, the Son of God: or else a madman or something worse. You can shut Him up for a fool, you can spit at Him and kill Him as a demon; or you can fall at His feet and call Him Lord and God. But let us not come with any patronising nonsense about His being a great human teacher. He has not left that open to us. He did not intend to." (C.S. Lewis, Mere Christianity, The MacMillan Company, 1960, pp. 40-41.)

Edit AY! Newbie | Thank you all for your suggestions! I am going to have to check all these books out the next chance I get. Right now I am reading "Life as a Vapor" by John Piper. I think it is really good. It's not hard to read and it's not overwhelming to me as a new believer, since it consists of 31 short meditations... My aunt has "Mere Christianity", so I think I'll start that next. |
