Unhappy College Blues

I don't even know where to begin....as most of you know I just made a big move to college. I just concluded my first week of classes. I should be happy about that...I am.. but I'm just really really having a hard time adjusting to college life. I have no one here close enough I can open up too and I can just feel it bottling up inside me. I put on this happy face in front of my roomates and professors, but I am sad...really really sad. Everyone says it will take time, I know it will, but I just want to become happy again I hate feeling the way I do right now. Full of self-pity and selfishness. But, I am struggling and I wouldn't be writing this unless I had no one else to turn to....and I don't. I would appreciate any prayers or advice in deaing with this tough time. I will write more later. Hope ya'll are having a good day!
In Christ Alone,
Barbara

Darlin, I know the feelin. And it may take a lil time.... thats normal. Have you found a church on/near campus?
Trust me, you're not the only one who feels that way Try just striking up a conversation with whoever you are sitting next to in class... and be a friend to them.
If you want to feel happier, download/buy praise music and listen to it all the time. That never fails to cheer me up, being reminded of God's love and grace.
It does get better. It does get easier.
I don't know if you live in a dorm or not, but if ya do... leave your door open when you're in your room. Ya won't feel so closed off, and people on your floor may poke their heads in to say hi.
Hope this helped a lil.... lemme know if ya need anything.

Keep praisin!!

Adjusting hasn't been easy for me either, but I'm sure we'll make it! Read Isaiah 41:10, 13, 14:
"Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.
"For I the LORD thy God will hold thy right hand, saying unto thee, Fear not; I will help thee.
"Fear not, thou worm Jacob, and ye men of Israel; I will help thee, saith the LORD, and thy redeemer, the Holy One of Israel."
I know this verse is encouraging to me! Also, Jesus is a Friend that sticks closer than a brother! I'll keep you in prayer! God bless!

Cool

I know what you mean. I'm happy that my roommate is an old friend, but that's all I have. However, my ra is really nice. Not to mention everyone at the college.
-----------
It really helps to get involved. I know I know, you ALWAYS hear this....I do too :P For example, my dorm floor just had a battle of the sexes tournament. My roommate didn't want to go, but I insisted, and she did, and we had a great time! Before that, we had a ping-pong tournament. That was fabulous also.
-----------
When you eat, don't eat alone. It's usually pretty good if you look around for someone else who's eating alone, sit about two chairs away from them, and just start talking. It can be as simple as biting into your pizza (to find the crust as burnt as can be) and start giggling, thus enticing the other person to wonder what's going on (trust me on that one, that's how I met one of my classmates, hehehehe).

It's all fun, but it's even more fun if you don't worry about it being fun. Take a chance, join a club. FIND A CHURCH YOU LIKE! And remember, if all else fails, you have a friend that will always be there for you (besides us at AY)........Jesus..... :D

This is soooo true. It also helps if you decorate your door or something. Put a little welcome sign up...or decorate it with post-it notes.....or maybe that's just me AND leave your door open. There are, believe it or not, people who randomly walk the halls for no particular reason. I know because one of them walked into my room.

Don't give up

Thank you all for your geniune and heart felt replies.

Pure Oxygen~~~ I have been to one church, that was last Wed. night. That has been the only time I've gotten to since, I've only been since last Saturday. I'm still praying about it. First impression, I really don't know how I feel about it, I may go back tomorrow. I know I am definately going to some church tomorrow I do live in a dorm....but it is different than most, it's an apartment style dorm. Which means, I share a kitchen, bedroom and restroom with 3 other girls, then we have our own beedroom.

AsTheDeer~~~Thank you so much for the Scripture in Isaiah, that is exactly what I needed to read this morning. You are right, it is going to take time...and we are never alone...the Lord is always here.

Gullivers~~~Thank you also for the advice you gave. I am praying about and looking in to joining a few clubs. There are so many on campus to choose from, I just dont want to overload myself. Thanks again

HaveFaith2005~~~Thanks for the comfort of knowing you will be praying fr me and thinking about me, I really appreciate it.

**Take care and thanks for the words of wisdom and truth all of you have spoken...I know the battle has just begun, but it's my choice to remain sad and unhapy or turn it around and begin to have fun and trust the Lord**
