I don't know where would be the best place...every place is a good place to start! But I've been on 5 weekend missions trips to NYC and I think that is an awesome experiance...which is why I've gone 5 times (in a row I might add).

Personally, I think anywhere and everywhere is an amazing place to start, amen! lol
There is a specific nation that my heart is specifically burdened for, and that is China. I also feel real drawn to England (HEY-ED!), Romania, Kenya and Australia. And many other countries, where human rights are a problem. And then of course Poland, where I am going in a month...oooooh

God's really starting to stir something up in England and guess what - it appears to be among the youth and those who are young people friendly! how odd!? The older generations are sitting back (in general - not everyone!) so God's taking the willing hearts all be they young and not knowing much!

Church attendance has been on the decline for years here - but look - in Manchester and London after the missions the last few years (Festival Manchester and SoulInTheCity) and the churches actually staying united and continuing to reach out to there communitys - God is bringing revival!!!!!!! YEY

Hence why on my year out for God i'm doing four months at home AND 5 months abroad. Helping (to quote soul survivor and its heart for people!) "the least, the last and the lost". Two places to change the world.

You don't even have to go anywhere to do mission. home is as much as a mission field as abroad!

So long as you have a willing heart God will use you - and i feel sometimes the place isn't to much of an issue - we don't all have a specific calling of place for short term mission - we just know we are called to GO! So be willing to get your hands dirty and GO!

Been to Solomon Islands and Nicaragua. I strongly recommend booking your youth group with "King's Castle" a ministry down there, it's composed of all 1st, 2nd, and 3rd year Master's Commission's people and missionaris leading it. So awesome. They have teams in all the time, for 1.5 weeks each, and is very organized, intense, and effective. These are MEN and WOMEN of God
