Edit Fighting Priest ![]() | Self-defense and Safety Issues I'm opening this thread for the ladieson AY to discuss this important subject. I'll try to post something of interest each day and everyone can discuss it and/or post something of their own. I think it's important for the girls to know about and think about safety and how to protect themselves in this sometimes messed up world. I'll be happy to answer any questions on the subject and I hope the discussion continues for a good, long time. Just so you know, I am a certified self-defense instructor and have been teaching Tae kwon do for a few years so I'm not just making stuff up . If you have any questions or comments right off the bat please feel free to post. If not I'll try to start up the discussion tomorrow. Thanx.,Josh |

Edit Evangelist/Missionary ![]() | I'm alright in practice for self defense, and grading in September for red belt in Tae Kwon Do. However, when I'm confronted in a situation I've learned from experience, unfourtunately, that I can't defend myself. I freak out, and I freeze up. I can't even take someone pretending to hit me, and I have no idea why. So yes, there's my battle: being mentally ready.

Edit Guest | I actually have the opposite problem (I also am in Tae Kwon Do) Whenever I feel a threat coming on me I react right away, and sometimes I react when there's no threat. It's strange, I have never been afraid ever of any guy attacking me. I have actually had it happen before and I laid the guy out (some years back before I took up tae kwon do). I dunno...it could be false confidance, but martial arts is quickly helping me learn how to keep situations in my control. |

Edit Fighting Priest ![]() | safety tip 1 Wow! Ladies with Tae kwon do experience, awesome. I haven't really figured out how this is going to work yet. I guess I'll just start off with something simple. Please add your thoughts and questions so we can keep things going. How do you think rapist and such pick their targets? They do it just like any other predator. They choose the easiest target they can. They are most likely to attack someone who is: a) alone b) seems submissive or easily intimidated c) is unaware of her surroundings/distracted Perpetrators of these kind of crimes are cowards who want to force themselves on females to make themselves feel more "manly". They want the least possible chance of failure so they pick the weakest looking target. What are some ways you can think of to make yourself a bad target for these attackers, and prevent them from even trying to hurt you? |

Edit Prophet/Prophetess ![]() | Well,my mom and I are very easy targets,so we u sually get a cop to escort us to our car, especially when it's dark. Some people have suggested that I take some type of self defense classes, but I am not..."athletically inclined"shall we say?I would probably hate it anyway.

Edit Prophet/Prophetess ![]() | That's a good one Damaris, right on! lol I think that you have to be careful with your body-language and facial expressions in public would play a big role if somebody is watching/stalking you, 'cause you can tell alot about somebody about their facial expressions and body language. I think if you are alone, just to keep calm, be cautious, and don't look scared, and if some rapist or predator comes up to you, to kick him in the "crouch", or pull his fingers back, and run for your life! lol

Edit servant ![]() | I go running by myself....and I don't like busy roads, and I don't tell people where I'm going. Doesn't sound too good, probably. But I do carry a cell phone!
