Talking Srresturl's Bane Excerpt

Hi,
This is my novel and it is copyrighted (C). So dont use it...its copyrighted by Bravenet!

Chapter One:
__________________________________________________ ___________________
The wizard looked at the sky. Dark storm clouds covered the city of Bolix Fryngolth for miles. Suddenly, lightning flashed; followed by rain. Srresturl put his hat over his head and got up. He was a wizard of the ancient order. Respected throughout the kingdom for his knowledge of governmental affairs, Srresturl was known as the Empress’s advisor. Srresturl knew the Empress since birth, and she personally chose him to be her advisor. Most politicians saw Srresturl as the Empress’s pet rather than a true advisor.
Srresturl had long gray hair and a huge goatee. His robe was brown, symbolizing he was the keeper of the earth. The wizard sighed as he slowly approached the Royal Palace. Made of pure gold and the size of four football fields, the Royal Palace was known for its many rooms. In the middle of the palace, there was a dome. Inside the dome, the senate usually meets for their weekly meetings. Representatives from all over Erstyianom and the surrounding islands met and discussed issues. Today was a special day, for Viceroy Naduk was going to make an important announcement.
Even though there was an Empress, she had little authority in the government. Iana was more of a chess piece for politicians to get their way. Srresturl feared that soon she would loose all her powers; some of which benefited the people. For example, Iana had the authority to decide things like whether or not a peasant got food or water. So she was looked up to and worshipped by the outcasts of the capitol city. Empress Iana also gave a lot of money to the poor in the community.
It was for these reasons Srresturl feared she would loose her powers. The political community did not appreciate Iana for her kindness. Most of the politicians were greedy and unjust. Even though she was well loved by the common folk, Srresturl feared this was not enough to protect her role as Empress. A sigh escaped the wizard’s lips as he began walking up the steps of the palace. People looked at him with curious faces. Not many people knew how important he was to the stability of the kingdom.
Now he was inside the palace. The walls were covered with murals of battles that happened long ago. Statues of the former rulers of Erystianom decorated the halls. The palace had many corridors leading to different rooms, many of which were off limits to the public. Srresturl walked up some more steps and found himself in the Senate chambers. Large platforms covered the walls, followed by a single platform in the center. This was where the Empress sat with Viceroy Naduk. The wizard climbed into the platform and sat next to Iana. She was wearing a red dress with white letters covering it.
“My lady, I greet you once more,” Srresturl said as he sat down.
“Welcome my friend, how’s the weather outside?” Iana asked.
“It’s going to storm soon. We’re lucky we are inside. So, what is the Viceroy going to announce?”
“To be frank, I am not sure. However, I suspect it has to do with the formation of an Empire. The latest gossip is the Erystianmomain kingdom will become the Erystianmomain Empire. Personally, I don’t want that. There will be no democracy,”
“I see. My lady if you do not mind me saying so, the creation of an Empire would devastate the nation,”
“How so?” Iana asked, her curiosity raised.
“For one, as you said, democracy will be non-existent. Second, there would be a dictatorship. Third, my order would likely be destroyed. Fourth……..”
“Ok, I get the idea. Thank you for your insight my friend,” Iana replied. Srresturl nodded his head. Just then, a gong was heard and people began filling up the senate chambers. Peasants were permitted to be involved in the meetings, since the laws being passed were for their own benefit. The bleachers for the common folk were in the southern part of the dome. Srresturl looked towards an entryway and saw Viceroy Naduk coming towards them. He stood up and bowed towards the Viceroy.
“Viceroy Naduk, it’s always a pleasure,” Srresturl said. The viceroy was wearing a green vest and matching pants. He had brown hair and teal eyes.
“Srresturl, it is always nice to see you. The weather outside looks gloomy don’t you think?” Naduk said with a shudder.
“Yes, it looks like we’re in for a storm. Most unusual for the dry season, don’t you agree?”
“I do agree. Well, time to make this life changing announcement. Trust me my friend, you’ll love it!” Naduk said as he stood up. The whole senate chamber erupted in applause, but quieted once Naduk put his hands up.
“A new moment is at hand fellow citizens of the great nation that is Erstyianom! For too long has the government failed to give you what you truly want and need: protection from the goblin army! Well, be prepared fellow citizens for a revelation. I, Viceroy Naduk hereby declare that the Erstyianomian Kingdom will now become the Erstyianomian Empire. Its ruler will be none other than Mylatharis, the senator from the southern oasis. The senate held a private meeting as to whether we should become an empire, and all senators voted yes. I introduce to you all, the new ruler of Erstyianom, Mylatharis!” Viceroy Naduk concluded. The crowds, including the senators, erupted in applause. All stood up as Mylatharis walked towards the platform.
“My lady, I suggest you leave now. It is not safe for you here. Let’s go,” Srresturl suggested.
“I agree,” Iana said as they both stood up. Naduk looked at them with a mischevious look.
“Leaving so soon? You both should meet the ruler of the Empire first,” he said as Mylatharis stepped into the platform. He had three eyes and was very tall. His skin was dark brown and he wore black armor around his entire body. In his right hand was a large staff. Mylatharis had no hair, but had yellow eyes.
“We are going now,” Srresturl said as both Iana and himself left the chamber. Mylatharis smiled evilly.
