War related video games...

What's your take on them? Do you find them to be harmful or just games?

This is a really hard one for me because I enjoy playing Halo and Halo 2 very much. But I for 100% sure bleieve that no one under 17 should play Halo, my reason? Because I have noticed with MANY MANY young people between the ages of 10 and 17, that playing violent games affect the way they think when they are angered. I have noticed that those over 17 seem to have more control of any "ill effects" that these games might produce in a persons life. But another reason why it is really hard and where I struggle, is that bloodshed, isn't something I should participating in. Even though it is only in a game, not in reality, and even though God was known for promoting and telling his people to go to war.

Rosie is correct.... which is why there is an ESRB-rating system in the first place.

However, most video games based on an actual war were always terrible to me (replay value is always too low it seems like). But then, I've always found to be easily killing anything in them.

With no regret either... right? That bothers me also... If I was to be a soldier and kill people in a act of war, then I would regret not being able to try and reach them for Christ and make them realize the error of their way........... *sigh* tis a confusing world we live in today!

I can tell you here right now, I'd not regret killing the enemy (unless it was like an adversary that fought honourably). I wouldn't regret not telling them of Christ myself though, I realize it's perhaps their time to go anyhow and they had plenty of time. On the other hand, I live in a no-remorse world.

I probably wouldn't regret it at the time of the killing, or even shortly after, but I live in a military town, and until recently attended a military church, and many of the soldiers that I met said that they regretted many things about killing the people that they did in those acts of war.

Although I do play war-related games, I try to stay away from those that are too "real". It seems odd to me to strive for a more realistic way of killing someone, as if it were truly real then you'd actually be fighting for your life and the fear of doing that is surely unimaginable...I don't know, some people are more influencable than others, but to me it looks odd on the face of it to kill realistic "people" for fun, although I can't deny I enjoyed Half-Life 2 from start to finish, and that's about as realistic as they come. There was one game I remember that had the "bright" idea of being able to download the current situations in Iraq, so you could fight them yourself days after they actually happened. That has to be the worst part of video games.

I used to know a guy who started off just being a kid who liked guns. It seemed to be just a healthy little boy game thing, no harm done. Alot of us were also into playing cops and robbers and whatever, sometimes pretending to be in a battle situation without realising the gravity of the reality. As time went on and he played more hardcore war games, however, his interest got unhealthy. He was 13, and could name the size of most guns' barrels, the average bullet velocitys, and recognise almost every gun under the sun from a photo. He'd draw pictures of guns, and aspired to be an assasin, often pretending to shoot people he didn't like in a really realistic way, planning out his every move and terrorising them. He'd often be heard to say "ohh, I really wana kill someone!".

So I think war-related games can soften you to the harsh reality of killing, and as they get more and more realistic, this effect will increase. I feel a stricter ban should be enforced, similar to that of controlling sales of alcohol and tobacco.

Sorry to go on, was only supposed to be a paragraph of musings.....

I am against it very much. I feel this way because it is like practicing killing people and that it is propaganda for going to war. It makes fighting in a war seem good in a way. I know I wouldn't go to war for America even if I was drafted. I would rather leave the US or go to jail. I wouldn't do that. Also I feel it is kind of like murder in a way to kill people in those games because Jesus said that hating a person is like murder and that we should love each other. So you wouldn't go killing people.

If you can't tell that there is a very distinct difference between the real world and a video game by the time you are in your teens, you should probably be in a padded cell so you do not hurt yourself because you clearly lack common sense.
