When it says that blasphemy is the unforgiveable sin it is talking about pushing away the Holy Spirit. Not just once or twice, but after the Holy Spirit gives you so many chances and all the love it can and you reject everything it can no longer give any more. That is what it means.
But the unforgiveable sin can also be a sin in your life that you won't repent from.
Hope this helps you.

The bit about blasphemy against the Holy Spirit being unforgivable: the reference is "Therefore I say to you, everyt sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven men. Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man, it will be forgiven him, but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit, it will not be forgiven him, either in this age or in the age to come." (Matthew 12:31-32). Shortly before this, Jesus cast out a demon from a blind/mute man and healed his blindness and muteness. The Pharisees promptly declared He did it using the power of Satan. From my Bible's notes on the verse: "The Pharisees had blasphemed against the Spirit by attributing the power by which Christ did miracles to Satan instead of the Holy Spirit. The unforgivable sin is the deliberate refusal to acknowledge God's power in Christ. It indicates a deliberate and irreversible hardness of heart. Sometimes believers worry that they have accidentaly comitted this unforgivable sin. But only those who have turned their backs on God and rejected all faith have any need to worry. Jesus said they can't be forgiven--not because their sin is worse than any other, but because they will never ask for forgiveness. Whoever rejects the prompting of the Holy Spirit removes himself or herself from the only force that can lead him or her to repentance and restoration to God."

Basically, blasphemy against the Holy Spirit is only something non-believers have to worry about it, and only those non-believers who have completely rejected God and will never believe will ever commit it. You can't do it by accident, therefore.

We won't help the poor, and turn our faces in shame when we come across the needy and less fortunate But we'll still call ourselves "holy" because we keep our pants zipped up. Adding on to the hypocrisy, the Believers among us WHO DON'T keep their pants zipped still declare themselves to be "holy" because their intentions are directed towards the opposite sex.

I agree completely with cookiemobster. God has the power to forgive ALL sins. The only reason that a person will never be forgiven the rejection of the spirit is because they are by nature rejecting the only one who CAN forgive.
The only way God could forgive us of this would be to violate the free choice that he promised us.
My thoughts.

Peace,
Josh

i kinda scanned through that really long thread, because i have a really short attention span... but anyways, this is what i've been taught, because i was really into learning about it awhile ago...

you can't do it by accident. pretty much, if you're worried about committing it, you haven't. it's one of those things that people who are worried about it haven't done it, but those who aren't worried about it might have (i'm not going to say they have but they might have)...

that's all for now, i really gotta go...

Yeah, I used to be really worried about it. But then I just thought logically: If there is only one sin God can't forgive, surely there are others just as bad. Why would He forgive them and not that specific one? I knew somehow it was off, and not something I needed to worry about. thanks cookie for completely clafifying that. It really makes sense now, and even tho i knew I was safe anyway, it helps to know its meaning.

i used to be a christian more than a year ago and i've totally lost it. i went to a christian camp and God spoke through somebody to me and i got saved but the next day i wanted to die. it is my biggest regret cuz now i don't know who i am. i totally turned against God but i don't want to. the guy at the camp said i had a jaded heart-which i know is true. i'm really angry, but i don't know what to do. everyone around me is christian, and i'm afraid i'll ruin their lives if i don't get clean. God left me, because i left him, i am selfish and a fool, i'm not real. i can't take it anymore, i want to go to Heaven-but i am so hard. they say nothing's too big for God, i know only if i'm real he'll take me back, i'm sorry i put this on your board but i just wanted to tell you that i rejected him, a billion times, cuz i keep saying i'm gonna repent tomorrow, but it never happens. tonight someone told me you shouldn't take your time for granted, cuz we're not here for very long, life here is just a blink of an eye compared to eternity, right now, it's unimaginable to think about how sad must God feel when we turn from him. i think i broke God's heart, and now am commencing self-destruction by saying no to him. this blasphemy makes me want to die-cuz i just read it and it's me. unforgivable, hopeless, i never change, the spirit speaks to me every day, every hour, minute, and i want it but i can't have it. overall, i have become wicked, and all i ever think about is being free in the future. i lost my life-the memories, love, everything, just because i wouldn't listen. none of it means anything, cuz i'm doomed. why can't i face the truth? does he get me, or does he not? again, i'm sorry for putting up this board but i just needed to
