Edit Disciple ![]() | Temptation I wasn't quite sure where to put this but since I'm less than a year old in Christ 'New Christians' seemed to fit. Anyways I was wondering if any of you had any really good tips on fighting temptation because I need help. When I first became a Christian and I felt great and everything until sin began to creep back into my life. I can't think of a time I haven't given into temptation now and I feel its ruining my walk with Christ. I can't take it anymore and I want to be how I was when I was a new born-again Christian but it's hard. I could really use some help. Thanks.

Edit Prophet/Prophetess ![]() | Here is something I'm about rdy to share this week from Proverbs 2. If you have time, read the chapter along with this. It is somewhat along the lines of what Amy and JOnathan were already saying. Maybe it will help a bit. ~JK Last week I talked about fearing the Lord and what that means. I'll repeat my definition again because I think it is pretty important to understand. Fearing God is acknowledging in awe His existence, power, and authority. It isn't a tormenting fear that leaves us paranoid of Him, but true fear of the Lord is more of an awe or respect. Only through a true fear of God can we understand our place before God. It places our life in perspective to His awesomeness. That perspective is the foundation by which wisdom is built upon. comments on v1-7. So how can we learn the "fear of the Lord", and obtain biblical wisdom? It probably isn't going to to come to you overnight. Still, there are ways we can seek wisdom, and God promises wisdom to those that seek it. God wants to give us wisdom. Verses 6 and 7 say that He saves us sound wisdom for us, and from His mouth comes knowledge, so how do we find it? 1) Firstly, we treasure God's Word in our hearts by memorizing and meditating on it. (v1-2) 2) Secondly, we open our hearts up to God, and cry out for wisdom and discernment. (v3) 3) Thirdly, we seek earnestly for wisdom, just as we would for treasure. In fact, God needs to even more important than any earthly thing as spelled out by the 1st commandment. (v4) When we do those three things, then we will discern the fear of the Lord, and discover His perfect wisdom, as God has promised. Verses 9 and 10 say, after we seek Him, and cry out to Him, "then you will discern righteousness and justice" and "wisdom will enter your heart". comments on v8-19. The greatest advantage of biblical wisdom, is the fact that it guards us from sin. That is so awesome. greenbiggrin.gif comments on v20-22. The chapter closes with a promise of the blessings of the land to the upright, and a curse to the wicked of losing the land. |

Edit His Masterpiece.. ![]() | uh, this might be pointing out the obvious. but the Bible doesn't ask us to "fight temptation".. instead it says "run/flee from temptation". when you stumble upon something that tempts you, RUN AWAY from it. get away as far as possible. don't stand there holding your ground against it, cuz it doesn't work that way. another thing, remember that you're not alone in this. if you're saved, you can count on the fact that God is with you and helping you deal with this. 1 Cor 10:13 No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. and God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. but when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.

Edit Prophet/Prophetess ![]() | and don't forget that Jesus was also tempted! That doesnt mean he was just offered the option of turning stones into break! But he was hungry - he hadn't eaten in 40days so he wanted food - but even in this state he gets past the temptation by repeating lines of scripture! They are absolute truth and even Satan had to bow to that and was beaten... So memorising scripture and saying it is a good way to meet temptation - sometimes as much to remind you of the truth when your minds saying - oh why not - its not that bad really.... |
