Edit AY! Newbie ![]() | non christian music so, here's a question. is listening to non christian music ok for a christian??? i listen to both christian and non christian music. i'm in two non christian bands, and one other band of my own that is just me and an acoustic guitar. my lyrics aren't really christian, but they aren't not christian. i mean, is there anything wrong with writing a song about how much you love your girlfriend??? i don't think so. i also play in my church's worship band. music is my life. it's also how i make the money to keep my apartment. and i don't think if my music were openly christian i could get as many gigs. my music doesn't talk about bad things, but it's not openly christian. i'm not into that whole preaching to people constantly. that's not what people relate to. non christians just want someone to be real with them and not get preached to all the time. so i play my music which draws people in, and then after shows, sometimes someone will come up and talk to me and we'll get around to talking about God. but in a causal way. if you just go saying,"if you don't accept Christ, then you're going to hell," that's just gonna scare people away. so yeah, that's my take. what's yours??? |

Edit AY! Newbie ![]() | music i dont reckon non christian music is rong if it is in the context your talking about. but if it is stanic or swears during the song or indicates that non christian views are all right.....that sort of thing...then i think that is when you should think about what it is your listening to. so many songs are innocent...but a load of the more recent songs from bands talk about sex and violence and that. to me, it seems as thou more and more music is becoming 'the rong type of music' but thta doesnt mean we can just stop listening to it! we are humans!!! lol i thin u no when a song's lyrics are rong. |

Edit AY! Newbie ![]() | I don't think it's wrong or your going to go to hell for it, but there can be a point when it becomes a problem...it it comes between you and God. I don't listen to secular music because it has an effect on my mood...music is a HUGE part of my life and I don't really know how to explain it, but I just try to stay away from it... -Val |

Edit Prophet/Prophetess ![]() | I think that its a way of connecting to non-christians. You can take pure gems of lines from there music to connect and start talking about God. We dont need to preach we need to love an be real. The HS will do the convicting - its not our job to judge (i just ranted about how we live with non-christians in non-christian friends thread) Yes theres some music that really isn't beneficial and is even negative. But hey i've heard some unbeneficial and negative "christian" music. Just be discerning. And above all don't get drawn into it so much that it defines you not God. Draw a line and stick to it. For everything will influence you. But so long as your eyes are on God and your spending quality time with him and growing you'll know when what your doing is going too far or wrong at the end of the day. He'll convict you! Also non-christian music is a way of reading where ppl are at. What they listen to shows their curent hang ups and struggles and feelings. It gives you a starting point. Its a way of reading the times! |

Edit Apostle ![]() | Non christian music to a christian is like a little lion....it doesnt seem like much of a probem or threat now but wait till the lion gets bigger....or in others words you become more focused on it than God....not good

Edit Prophet/Prophetess ![]() | I agree...Ive been convicted not to listen anything that dosen't lift up my Lord BUT if you guard your heart and your ears I dont think SOME non christian music is bad..anything with a bad message is not good for your spiritual health

Edit Guest | I'm going to say my HONEST opinion. Noone has to agree with me!!!! The fact is, that if U dedicate your music to God, you WILL get blessed! Believe me! I don't think there's nothing wrong with playing a song 4 your girlfriend!! (I sure hope a guy does that 4 me one day!!) Here's a thought 4 U: Who R U trying to impress? God or your fans? |

Edit Prophet/Prophetess ![]() | I definately don't think it's wrong! I listen to Classic Rock, Country, very little of Pop, but I do listen to Christian. I don't think it's wrong to play in a band that doesn't play Christian music, 'cause we all have different interests! Just don't play "BAD" music!

Edit Prophet/Prophetess ![]() | First of all, theres no such thing as an 'evil' drum beat or guitar lead or rythm....thats all a lie. What really matters is what the message is behind it. We should give glory to God in everything we do, BUT, I listen to secular music sometimes too! Rap, rock, pop, anything really. As long as it has a good message. No Marilyn Manson or Rob Zombie..yeah, no people like that. What matters is the lyrics. I grew up on Eric Clapton and Lynyrd Skynyrd and people like that. Im a rock n roll chick

Edit Prophet/Prophetess ![]() | I personally like many secular songs and have no problem with it! I think unless a song is going against God it is okay! For instance there are some secular songs that lift up Nature, people and God made all that so in a sense it is lifting Him up! I don't really like just carefree love songs though.
